Painting Rocks – A naptime Project

22 April 2015 by Tausha 1 Comment

Alright, last week I shared some pictures of our ‘cacus rocks’ that we painted as an easy Toddler project & I thought I’d share something a little more intricate that we did while Momma Piercy was in town this week. We originally wanted to do the entire alphabet, but ended up only doing Presleys’ name instead. We had a pretty hard time locating FREE rocks that were the size/shape we wanted – come on Arizona! Presley is OBSESSED with rocks lately (and she hides them EVERYWHERE!) I have to sneak them back outside so she doesn’t throw them in the house. Maybe when she gets a tad bit older I’ll do the whole alphabet for her.

So Momma Piercy did these while Presley and I were running around and this is such an EASY project & you can really do anything you want. I’m already brainstorming tons of other rocks to decorate.

She started off by using a pencil to write out a letter on each rock and then filled each letter in with a black sharpie.
IMG_1878Then she just sort of went crazy with sharpies and decorated each one a little bit differently. Once they were all dry and we liked them, we gave them a coat of clear spray paint to seal them and all done. I’m super thrilled with how they turned out, but also super excited to decorate more!
rocksPAnd yes, if you look closely, the two year old is coloring with sharpies. Hey, you only live once is my motto. I was going to blame it on grandma if she did anything too messy. As soon as Daddy saw, we got shut down and had to bust out the crayons. Lame. I know.
rocksnameNot bad eh? I love them & Presley loves saying each letter. Happy Wednesday y’all.

Not a single day has gone been where I didn’t think of him.....and for me, the unknown is the worst. We still don’t know if he is in a safe home, if he died that night, or after. It just breaks my heart to think he wasn’t surrounded by love in his final moments. Miss you Dexxy “brother” 🐾🌈

Thought I’d share a fun November adventure we we Thought I’d share a fun November adventure we went on to @oliobonamini We were able to see the amazing process of making olive oil & here is a basic breakdown of how it works:

First, a machine shakes the olives from the trees. The olives fall to a net on the ground.

Then the leaves are removed & the olives are washed in regular water.

Next, The olives are dropped into another machine that works like little hammers crushing the olives (skin, meat, pit, water and olive oil all together)

This paste is then kneaded by another machine for 30-40 minutes to make separation easier.

The next machine takes the paste and separates the solid parts from the liquid parts .

The liquid parts go into another machine that separates the oil from the water and you are left with an UNFILTERED olive oil.

The oil then goes into giant tanks until it is time to be bottled!
