We purchased our sweet Dexter 4 years ago from a breeder and with all his AKC paperwork came his birth date. I’ve always penciled it down & purchased him just a little something to celebrate. We use a dog voice & speak for him – and usually, I’d say I’m THAT crazy Dog Mom. I mean, he’s my baby! When we first got Dex, we fell in love with him right away. He was the most adorable puppy & quickly become a member of our little family.
We were nervous when we found out we were pregnant, because we heard that animals can get vicious and territorial with new family members, so the first night Chad came home from the hospital with a blanket from Presley’s little crib & let Dexter sleep with it. We introduced them right away & watched very eagerly
Our worries quickly faded away when we realized Dexter was obsessed with her. The first to run to the bedroom when she woke up from a nap. The one who got really anxious when she was upset & who loved to cuddle up right next to her when she was taking naps on the couch. They’ve been best friends since Day 1. I’m serious, a lot of times during a frantic tantrum – Dexter is the ONLY thing that will calm Pres down. She won’t go to sleep without ‘hugs en kisses’ from him & he plays so softly and gentle with her.
Since Presley is 2.5 and understanding more & more every day. I thought we could do something more for Dexter this year to celebrate his birthday. So we made him a puppy cupcake, a little party hat & we went to the store & Presley picked him out some new treats and toys. He was pretty excited & scarfed the whole thing. Presley realllllly wanted a bite, but we didn’t let her try it. (We have to hide the dog food when she’s awake or she will eat it all!)
We loves you very much Dexxy Dana!

Happy Birthday Dexter! My puppy’s birthday is the 13th and we don’t usually make something of it besides getting her a new toy. Maybe next year when LW is a little older too 🙂
