Alright, if you’ve been around awhile you know I’m addicted to Goodwill Half Off Saturdays & covering anything and everything I find in paint. If you come into my house – I will probably paint you too. You can change anything you want with paint. As long as its the shape you want – paint it! I’ve (just this week alone) painted a frame for this project, pots for this project & now this baby. All with the same jar of paint too. DecoArts Chalky Paint is my go-to….so creamy & perfect. Goodwill is heaven alone, but is an absolute madhouse of excitement on half-off Saturdays. Every other Saturday ALL Goodwills have a 50% off day. Everything in the store (minus brand new & seasonal items) are half off the ticket price. Cha-Ching. You basically are loosing money NOT being there. Plus your putting people to work & giving them jobs (they said it, not me). So go.
First things first. RACE to that Home department. Glassware, pots, pants, plates (I’ve gotten a ton for food photography posts), frames. Thats where the good stuff is. The ‘pretty please paint me and take me home’ stuff “. Don’t look at colors at all. That is fixable. Look for shapes! Also, I go in with a list of things on my phone that I am specifically looking for – for projects, “curtains, pillows to recover, chairs to refinish etc.”. Usually the Friday before, I’ll browse pinterest under the search ‘trash to treasure’ and get a TON of ideas for stuff to keep an eye out for. People are genius I tell ya.
So this last week, while I snuck away and went to FOUR goodwills nearby, I found this gorgeous spice rack. I knew the second I saw it I wanted it to be an Essential Oil holder. It was perfect. It ended up being $2.50 and came with a billion tiny little jars that I later dug out of the trash to find something to do with them. I mean, look at how perfect this thing is:
I almost didn’t even want to do anything with it. It looks like it belonged in a cute little great grandmas kitchen. It sat in the guest room (my Project room) for a full week before I finally got up the courage to change it. After my big helper helped take all the cute bottles out “Oh dis one is so wittle and cute” I gave it a tiny all over wipe & sand. And then painted two coats of DecoArt’s Chalky Finish in Everlasting (white) onto it letting it dry for an hour between coats. Then, after it was distressed up a bit (I used 150 grit sandpaper) I gave it a quick polish of wax & hung that baby right up. I put it in our master bedroom, on our ‘not so finished’ gallery wall & I love how it looks already. Guess I should finally get my DoTerra membership huh?
Pretty crazy before and after right? But super duper easy! Get out to your Goodwill and get your shop on, then come over and paint! What do you think?
How do you store your oils?
