Mom & Mini Matching Shirts – HTV (a tutorial)

14 June 2016 by Tausha 1 Comment

headerI figured that since this instagram picture was such a big hit (hashtag follow me), I’d stop by to share this quick & easy tutorial with Expressions Vinyl. I’ve heard of this company before but hadn’t used any of their vinyl. At Elevate I learned more about them & was even given an amazing blogger gift pack with some vinyl to test out. Of course, with our Disneyland trip right around the corner from Elevate, I decided to make Presley a little Disneyland shirt & a matching set of tanks for us to wear this summer. I’m such a sucker for making our own shirts, there is nothing than buying a perfect fitting blank tee & then sprucing it up with paint or HTV. Did you catch how we paint our shirts? You can find that here.
So, here is the quick & easy how-to on how to use HTV. It is a little tricky at first, but once you get it – SO quick & easy. You will seriously want to change up every single item you own. Just beware. I warned ya.

So, first up. You will need to grab whatever you are wanting to put HTV on & make sure it’s washed and irons so that the image/text can stick on flat. For our tanks, we found them both at Goodwill for under $1 each & then washed and ironed the front where the text would be going. I am using Glitter HTV from Expressions Vinyl in the color Jade.
shirt1-Next up, cricut/silhouette owners, you will want to open your work area and set your base space. Just measure one shirt at a time. Beware of where the text will sit & leave some room on either side for hips, breasts, etc. I always take a larger measurement & then make it smaller than that area. That make sense at all? Hope so. Just image exactly where your text will sit, top to bottom – left to right.
shirt2-Create your text, image…right click & group it all together if you are using more than one item. Then you will need to flip horizontally. The way that the HTV prints requires that your image be printed backwards so that it irons on correct. Told ya, tricky at first.

-This font required (It is Magnolia Sky if you are wondering) that the image be highlighted & then I made sure to just cut the outer edge so that the little cursive lines didn’t show through.
shirts2Once it is cut, you simply trim, weed & iron. Baam. Easy as that. Seriously HTV is magical.

Not a single day has gone been where I didn’t think of him.....and for me, the unknown is the worst. We still don’t know if he is in a safe home, if he died that night, or after. It just breaks my heart to think he wasn’t surrounded by love in his final moments. Miss you Dexxy “brother” 🐾🌈
