It’s been awhile since I talked about our obsession with treasure hunting. Geocaching was something I heard of but didn’t look into until about 2 years ago. I shared some tips on How to Geocache with a Toddler in a post awhile ago & thought I would share a follow up post on our adventures. Presley and I are very lucky to get to stay home and hang out with each other everyday. She isn’t in school yet, so we have empty days to fill up. While I love doing stuff around the house and we stay busy with snow projects, shirt making, or making our own crystals – sometimes it’s just fun to get out of the house! I usually plan out our weeks in advance and try to schedule in one morning or afternoon to do some treasure hunting. Our trinket collection is growing so I decided while I was taking a break from packing to create a little shadow box for our goodies.
In a previous trip to Michaels I was on the hunt for the perfect shadow box with a hole at the top to drop our goodies in. The prices (even with coupons) were crazy – i’m talking around $30 for a frame – so I decided to hack a shadow box and found a 3 pack of white frames for $12 and brought them home. I think I’m going to attempt to cut a hole in the top, but for now – we just remove the back and toss our goodies in and it’s worked out perfectly.
This was one of those projects that was so quick and easy because of the Silhouette Cameo (aff). I absolutely love this machine and use it on a weekly (if not every other day) basis. I took apart the frame & measured it to start creating my design – this is always the first thing you want to do! Don’t fall in love with a design if it won’t work for your space….measure first!
Once I had my measurements of where I wanted the vinyl the fit – I got to work in designing what I wanted on the glass. I found the geocaching symbol online and then added the lettering around it (similiar to a design I saw on google images)
Then I printed it out on my favorite white vinyl from Expressions Vinyl and used some transfer tape to get it all ready to go. Easy peasy!
Then, just press and sit back and enjoy! Vinyl is amazing. Oh man, I love this crazy hair girl of mine!
Like I mentioned earlier, I would have LOVED to have a shadow box with a hole in the top, but for $4 I don’t mind opening up the back once a week to add our trinkets. So what do you think? I like the plain brown background, but was thinking it might be fun to add a map, or an illustrated treasure map? What do you think?
Thanks for stopping by today! Have a great week! XO
