This past weekend we decided to go explore Oklahoma City. I have a few things pinned to my Oklahoma board and so we thought we would go get to know the area and hopefully find some things to add to our To-Explore list. Oklahoma City is an hour and a half from our home so it’s a pretty easy drive to do, unfortunately their are TWO tolls that require payment both into OKC and out. The first was $2.00 and the second was $1.75 – so it ended up being $7.50 just in tolls to go their and back. The drive itself was pretty, hardly any traffic (we went on a Sunday) and were really surprised that most of the city was quiet and didn’t have a lot going on. Chad kept reminding me it isn’t like our usual spots- San Francisco, San Diego or even Phoenix.
We decided to visit the Myriad Botanical Gardens in the City and loved it. The grounds are free to explore and feature lots of beautiful greenery, fish/ducks that enjoyed snacks from the bottom of my purse, a splash pad and an entire kid exploration area. There is plenty of grass areas for picnics, day trips and relaxing.
When you want to enter the glass dome their is a charge of around $8 per person. While it was completely beautiful, we wouldn’t do it again. The area, although claiming to be 3 levels is a bottom level, and then a top walkway were you can oversee the bottom. It was gorgeous, hot, muggy and we walked around 2x in about 30 minutes before we decided to be done. The dome has a fun kids area with dress up toys, lots of books, a rocking chair and even a cute little gift shop full of moderately priced t-shirts, trinkets and souvenirs that is air conditioned before you enter the gardens.
Presley loved exploring everything outside and inside, but definitely couldn’t wait to go cool off in the splash-pad. Thank goodness we always have an extra outfit and swimsuit ready in the car!
Definitely an amazing adventure than any first timer to Oklahoma City should do!
Get out there and explore! XO
