Last weekend we played in the water in Medicine Park, and so this weekend we decided to head back to the same area of Medicine Park (only about 20 minutes from Lawton) and explore the Holy City. I pinned a few things to my OK board, and then our realtor – seriously the best person we’ve ever met – told us to check it out so we knew it was a good place to visit.
The Holy City was created to replicate Israel during the biblical times and also hosts an Easter Play ‘The Prince of Peace’ every year starting in 1926. The replica holy land includes locations like Pilate’s judgment hall, Herod’s Court, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Lord’s Supper building, and a number of towers and walls. The story that told each year covers Jesus’ life from birth through his resurrection.
It was absolutely mesmerizing walking around the grounds. Everything was so peaceful and beautiful – it truly transported you back in time.
Obviously the entire exhibit is outside, so if you plan on visiting make sure to bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and lots of water! We visited in July and it was extremely hot. There is a small gift shop/snacks available for purchase. There is a public restroom available and several spots for monetary donations.
Get out there and explore! XO
