My baby brother and his wife came to visit us in Oklahoma before we move overseas and while they were here we decided we would venture to Davis, Oklahoma to visit Turner Falls. We made it a day trip as it was only an hour and a half away from our home in Lawton. We left our home early and arrived at 930am – there was still parking at that time but just 45 minutes later the entire place was full and traffic was directed outside to shuttle in – so we JUST made it! Definitely plan to arrive early to get a parking spot, although waiting and taking a shuttle isn’t the worst option.
Admission to the park is best purchased online in advance, once the park sells out of tickets they don’t let anyone in – can you imagine driving all the way there to find out they are at max occupancy and being turned away! Better safe than sorry. (You can find tickets here)
There are several caves you can explore – keep an eye out for spiders! – and so many areas to swim, wade, or just sun bathe! There is even a castle that includes TONS of stairs you can explore. We brought chairs, blankets and a cooler full of snacks, drinks and even stuff for lunch. It was kind of a hassle to lug everything down but worth it in the end! People even brought huge canopy’s and tables! You can get women’s wetsuits in case you want to go swimming and be prepared for an adventure.
There are plenty of spots were the water is shallow enough kids can just walk through, throw rocks and splash but anyone under 12 is required to wear a coast guard approved life jacket so make sure you have one before you head up there!
The park also has spots for overnight stays, so if you want to make it a weekend adventure you totally can! Part of me wishes we did because there was lots more to explore! We had an absolute blast and I’m so thankful that my brother and Tori were there to enjoy it with us!
