Verona is just 45 minutes from our front door, so with a free afternoon we decided to go explore and start putting our To-Do list together. With so much history in Italy, I feel like we need to visit every city a few times to be able to see everything, so sometimes it’s nice to go check it out and explore and make a list (Can you tell I’m Type A?) of what to see and do and then get to researching. We headed up to Verona on a Sunday afternoon and found free parking close enough to the main center of town that we just parked and walked to explore. Entering through the Portoni della Bra was such a beautiful way to start the day – the giant clock in the middle would be an amazing {giant} living room wall clock!
Inside the square are gorgeous little italian roads (will I ever get sick of them? I think not) and Verona city hall surrounded by a beautiful garden square with picnic benches, musicians playing beautiful music for tips, and restaurants everywhere. Of course, I highly recommend stopping to get a Spritz and a Brioche to power you up for walking around this beautiful town.
The Arena is one of the things next on our list of things to see as it is one of the best preserved ancient structures of its kind. It is still home to large scale operas and I will definitely be keeping an eye out to snag date night tickets! Entry to the Arena is around 10€ or you can purchase the 24/28 hour Verona Card to view the Arena and many more historical sights/museums.
Verona is the home of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet (which is really Arthur Brookes to begin with!) and you can even visit the famous balcony, leave a love note to Juliet, touch the statues right breast – legend has it provides you with good fortune in love and for a small fee you can actually go up to the balcony during certain hours. (Photo-Session anyone?)
We stopped to check out a market happening in Piazza delle Erbe and grabbed lunch and delicious fruit cups. Of course we visited up the trip with Gelato and a giant list of things we need to see when we come back! I cannot believe this gorgeous town is so close!
Thanks for stopping by 🙂 Off to try and finish unpacking our home!
