Explore Germany: Hike to the WWII Memorial

15 November 2018 by Tausha 2 Comments

Whenever we travel I like to do a little bit of research on not only the best places to see and where to eat; but the history on what has happened in these beautiful towns. When we first found out we were headed to Garmisch I was engulfed in research because the 1936 Olympics where hosted here under Nazi-Regime and I have this crazy love of pictures from ‘then & now’ —> Check out this amazing side by side gallery.  When we are these places I love to just imagine what it was like then & try to emerse myself in the culture as much as I can.

We toured a Concentration Camp Dachua while we were visiting Munich so seeing these pictures with Hitler is very sombering to look through. There is so much history in Garmisch that I could spend weeks reading all about it! But for now, pictures! Our group of Dental Wives rounded up all the kids and headed about 15 minutes away from the resort to get to the trail head to hike to this beautiful memorial.

At the trail head after the hike, I highly recommend enjoying some food at the restaurant. I had a potato soup followed by a sugar explosion that was TO DIE FOR. This hike was super easy and stroller friendly! A great family afternoon adventure!

Loved your post as always. So fun to see what you are experiencing and you do such a great job! The pictures and article you posted on the history of the area was fascinating. Have you read “Boys in the Boat?”

Thought I’d share a fun November adventure we we Thought I’d share a fun November adventure we went on to @oliobonamini We were able to see the amazing process of making olive oil & here is a basic breakdown of how it works:

First, a machine shakes the olives from the trees. The olives fall to a net on the ground.

Then the leaves are removed & the olives are washed in regular water.

Next, The olives are dropped into another machine that works like little hammers crushing the olives (skin, meat, pit, water and olive oil all together)

This paste is then kneaded by another machine for 30-40 minutes to make separation easier.

The next machine takes the paste and separates the solid parts from the liquid parts .

The liquid parts go into another machine that separates the oil from the water and you are left with an UNFILTERED olive oil.

The oil then goes into giant tanks until it is time to be bottled!
