EXPLORE THAILAND: Koh Yao Yai

24 January 2020 by Tausha Leave a Comment

Next up on our Thailand adventure was Koh Yao Yai! Here are some previous trip posts from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Krabi, and Koh Lanta. We loved this location and the hotel so much we actually cancelled our next location to be able to stay here an extra night. This was definitely the most expensive place we stayed not only because of the nightly price but it was at the end of the island and nothing was really around it except for the resort. It had the ‘all-inclusive’ feel except for that all the meals had separate charges & because you couldn’t go anywhere they got away with charging an arm and a leg. It was definitely an amazing few days & we loved the resort! Find out more about the Santhiya Resort HERE.

For breakfast in the morning we always had excellent timing and had a lay down location right in front of the infiniti pool. Breakfast was included in our overnight charge and it was absolutely delicious. We definitely ate way too much every single morning. We made it a point to watch sunset from the Infiniti Pool a few times & stopped by in the afternoons for the drink specials. This view was absolutely insane.

We could ride down in a car to the main part of the resort (the property was absolutely giant!) to visit the restaurants, the pier, several different pools and the kids club. We loved walking up and down the pier because we could see tons of fish in the clear water! They also served dinner here several times but we never made it a priority to go. The overwater lounge spots would have been a great spot for a sunset dinner though!

Man, we loved this resort! This was my favorite pool (after the infiniti pool of course!) there were little floating boats that had a gentle sway. I could have slept there and burned my butt cheeks all dang month long. Presley loved swimming around this pool, going around the waterfall & diving to collect all the leaves in the water to ‘help clean up’.

We spent a good amount of time exploring the beach. We found sand dollars, lots of shells, tons of fish near the pier and gorgeous water. The resort had free snorkel stuff, paddle boards to check out and even a Christmas celebration with fireworks while we were there. While Presley was playing in the free kids club one afternoon Chad and I walked down to the end of the beach to see if we could snorkel & we stumbled upon a giant family of monkeys!

Private Snorkel Tour

When we were checking out paddle board and snorkel equipment to use we saw information on a private snorkel tour and because Presley was finally confident enough to be in the water we decided we would splurge and do it. It ended up being absolutely incredible. The resort sent us with delicious packed lunches & all the bottled water we could drink. It was just us and our tour guide who knew we wanted to snorkel as much as we could. He took us to several different spots, let us stay in some areas for longer & even helped us find clown fish! He fed the fish while we were in the water so they would swim around us & then let us have extra beach time so we could fly the drone around! It was a blast not being with a group of other people (we didn’t have issues on our other tours, but there were some rowdy people that I didn’t really enjoy having Presley around). This was by far my favorite day of our entire trip to Thailand.

Thought I’d share a fun November adventure we we Thought I’d share a fun November adventure we went on to @oliobonamini We were able to see the amazing process of making olive oil & here is a basic breakdown of how it works:

First, a machine shakes the olives from the trees. The olives fall to a net on the ground.

Then the leaves are removed & the olives are washed in regular water.

Next, The olives are dropped into another machine that works like little hammers crushing the olives (skin, meat, pit, water and olive oil all together)

This paste is then kneaded by another machine for 30-40 minutes to make separation easier.

The next machine takes the paste and separates the solid parts from the liquid parts .

The liquid parts go into another machine that separates the oil from the water and you are left with an UNFILTERED olive oil.

The oil then goes into giant tanks until it is time to be bottled!
