I cannot believe my sweet husband is 38 this weekend! We decided to stay pretty local for his birthday and go to Cortina D’Ampezzo. We wanted to do some skiing and scope out the area for some summer trips we have planned in the area. Cortina is a great starting point for tons of mountain biking & some amazing hikes like Tre Cime & Lago di Sorapis.

The first day we were in Cortina Presley and Chad skiid their hearts out while I sat in our cozy hotel sipping a Hugo Spritz and organizing some of our future travel plans. Which of course, ended up ALL having to be cancelled because of Covid later on. Major bummer. Ever since Presleys ski lessons last year she has been a little ski master and has so much fun in the snow & it’s been her and Chads special thing they can do together.

That afternoon after my ski-bums were worn out we drove to a trailhead of a little hike that we explored for a little bit before heading to the main streets of Cortina. We found a darling little bookstore, grabbed dinner & listened to the church bells ringing. Walking around the downtown area of new cities is my absolute favorite! Then we headed home to get ready for another day of skiing.

The following day it was my turn! I tried snowboarding once about 10 years ago with Chad as my coach and it ended with tears. At that point in our relationship we didn’t really know how to communicate and it just wasn’t pretty. It took me the last 10 years to get over it and now was my chance to be brave. I was fitted for rental ski equipment and after a few hours finally got the hang of it. Chad and Presley were able to give me tons of tips & I ended the day totally sore but so excited that I didn’t get hurt and actually had a ton of fun!

The details:
From Vicenza the Tolls for the Autostrada are one way 12,50 and about 3 hours. We stayed at a Hotel called Piccolo Pocol. The hotel ended up being great and close to skiing – but it was about 25 minutes up some switchbacks away from downtown Cortina. We ate a cute restaurant in town called Birreria Hacker Pschoor small about 10 tables but a great menu, fast service and all the staff spoke enough english. We stayed for 3 days & 2 nights and for a ski weekend it was enough, but as a base point for hiking or summer activities I would definitely stay for longer.

Thanks for stopping by, adventure is out there! XO
