This was hands down the coolest AirBNB overnight stay we have ever had. When we were planning our trip to the Amalfi Coast and wanted to be able to stop midway (it’s about a 9 hour drive) so we wanted to do half way, stop to relax and then finish the next day. When I started my search this castle came up and I knew right away we had to stay there. ONLY downside was not being able to stay for longer!!! The castle grounds were extraordinary, and while the AirBnb only takes up a small portion of the castle – we were given a tour of the rest of the interior of the castle and it was incredible. The stay included use of the grounds with beautiful gardens & a beautiful pool plus we have remained in touch with the hosts who were some of the kindest people we’ve ever met!
Civita di Bagnegerio
After leaving the castle, we had to drive the rest of the way to the Amalfi Coast but I wanted to make a quick stop at this amazing location because as soon as I saw the pictures I instantly fell in love. Founded 2500 years ago by Estrucans the ‘dying city’ has less than a dozen residents and will ultimately erode itself away. We paid the 5euro per person to cross the bridge and really just wandered around the little streets imagining all the events that had taken place here over the last 2500 years.
Entering through the Porta Santa Maria we found a spot to have a quick bite to eat while overlooking the San Donato Church, this church dates back to the 7th century with the facade being rebuilt in the 1500s. There is an underground cave/tunnel system were Pinocchio was filmed but we decided to just explore for a bit before driving on.
Next stop, Sorrento!
