Bomarzo – our last stop during Amalfi week

3 August 2020 by Tausha Leave a Comment

WHEW! It’s been a whirlwind this last week…..wanna catch up on our trip so far? We started with our own private castle & explored the city of Civita di Bagnegerio, then spent some time in Sorrento & visited Pompeii & Mt. Vesuvius. We did a boat tour around Capri & then relaxed in Positano & Amalfi. Now, it’s time to head home (after a week I’m ready to sleep in my own cozy bed!) We split up the 9 hour drive at a good halfway point in a little town called Bomarzo.

Okay, so Bomarzo is a very very small quaint town. AirBnb is going to be your best shot as far as spending the night. We found a darling 4 level place that would have been PERFECT had it not been in the middle of summer as the place didn’t have A/C. We all ended up practically naked in a bed with all 4 fans pointed at us to sleep. During fall/winter the place would have been great. Definitely make sure you click all the ‘filters’ you want when searching for a place. This was our AirBNB, but I would have preferred this one that has A/C.

There is enough to do in Bomarzo if you like to keep moving and seeing stuff, but also a great place to just grab a spritz and relax! Our main goal was to visit Sacro Bosco before finishing our drive home. But you can wander around the Orsini Palace, go on a hike to find the Estrucan Pyramid, and get lost in the little sepia toned alleyways.

After wandering the streets, grabbing a quick dinner & gelato we promptly fell asleep after directing all the fans on us. In the morning it was time to explore Sacro Bosco before heading home.

Sacro Bosco was designed by Prince Vicino Orsini & the architect Pirro Ligorio in 1552 and is very interesting to see in person. After sanitizing and waiting in line we paid to enter & then were really free to just roam about. Heres some of the cool structures we found:

Now we gotta get this silly goose home after a week of adventures! Thanks for checking in on us, we are just over here being thankful for this amazing phase in our lives.

Thought I’d share a fun November adventure we we Thought I’d share a fun November adventure we went on to @oliobonamini We were able to see the amazing process of making olive oil & here is a basic breakdown of how it works:

First, a machine shakes the olives from the trees. The olives fall to a net on the ground.

Then the leaves are removed & the olives are washed in regular water.

Next, The olives are dropped into another machine that works like little hammers crushing the olives (skin, meat, pit, water and olive oil all together)

This paste is then kneaded by another machine for 30-40 minutes to make separation easier.

The next machine takes the paste and separates the solid parts from the liquid parts .

The liquid parts go into another machine that separates the oil from the water and you are left with an UNFILTERED olive oil.

The oil then goes into giant tanks until it is time to be bottled!

I’ve been getting really caught up in the long run & what we are MISSING by being in lockdown - when instead I should be showing up in other ways for my family & practicing gratitude every day. If I complain about not being able to travel, slap me m’kay? 👋🏻
