Wanted to share this awesome Contemporary Art Hike location only 1 hour from Vicenza. Parco del Sojo is ONLY OPEN ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 10-18 so this is the perfect family weekend adventure! Both kid (not stroller) & dog friendly.
The road to parking does have a few tight switchbacks towards the end so it might be a good idea to have some Dramamine as you leave.
There is a small parking lot at this pin, and then you walk up the curved road to the Parks entrance. The entrance is right before a home and there is a small sign that directs you to the path past a few small gardens and then into the park.
Right away, you’ll start seeing sculptures & things that just seem ‘out of place’, there are signs for some with name placards & others are just there. We looked at the park’s website: Parco del Sojo and found a few sculptures we definitely wanted to try to find!
After you hike up for a bit while finding sculptures, you’ll make it into a big clearing where you will see a big building to stop and pay at (5euro for adults, and 3 euro for kids) and they will give you a map of all the sculptures you can find, as well as a little notebook for kids so they can draw the sculptures in as they find them!
There are sculptures and art everywhere! Everywhere you turn you can find another piece to admire or have conversations about (what do you think the artist wanted us to feel? think about?). Some of the pieces are absolutely beautiful, some pretty odd, some kinda spooky, and a few that gave me really interesting vibes.
We hiked for around 4 hours and didn’t make it to see everything – there is so much to see. Tons of grass areas to relax in, or have kids run around wild in. I recommending bringing a small snack, water, (we wore our hiking backpacks), bug spray and good hiking shoes. I think my favorite part of the entire hike was finding a small tunnel system (apparently used in one of the world wars (lost in translation when we were talking to the owners) but we found a few small little bats inside! SO stinking cool!!
Near Marostica and Bassano del Grappa so you could make it a full day adventure if you have the time!
